IB Middle Years Programme

Learning Journey

The learning journey of learners from Year 6 through to Year 10 within the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP), can be described as an education of the heart, head and hands. Through engaging and authentic learning experiences relevant to the learner’s life, our learning journey seeks to provide rigorous, challenging and inquiry-based classroom experiences that empower each learner to engage in responsible service and action within their community. The nature of the MYP ensures that the learning journey is a holistic journey that focuses on the social and emotional, cognitive and physical development of the each learner.

The foundation of the MYP learning journey at Good Shepherd Lutheran College is the IB Learner Profile. The aim of an IB education is to develop internationally minded citizens who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. The 10 aspirational qualities of the IB Learner Profile represent the qualities of an internationally minded citizen, who through service and action, can help to create a better and more peaceful world.

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Thinkers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective

IB organization

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right." (IB Mission)

World School

Middle school students have an innate sense of wonder and a hunger to understand their world. At Good Shepherd Lutheran College, an International Baccalaureate World School, we are committed to your child becoming an active, compassionate and lifelong learner.

Good Shepherd Lutheran College’s commitment to developing a caring global community continues with our Year 6 to Year 10 students undertaking the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). An internationally accredited framework, the MYP encourages young people to seek knowledge beyond the limits of their local and national community, and to understand and value the diverse international cultures of the world.

Aligned Mission Statements

The IB Mission statement aligns well with our own College Mission. Good Shepherd Lutheran College adopted the MYP because of its holistic approach to educating the whole child, its emphasis on developing learning skills, and the opportunities it provides for meaningful service.
