'Beauty: A Concept'

This artwork is a lino print and was made to represent the idea of beauty through the ages. Beauty standards have been constantly changing over time and discriminating against people who do not fit into the ideal standards of what a person should look like.

I drew inspiration from Pablo Picasso’s lino prints and used thick lines to outline the features and add details. I used blocky shapes and colours in some areas to emphasise the difference between the two eras. I used a base that had the beauty standard of today, thick eyebrows, freckles, and straight hair. And I overlapped it with the beauty standards of 100 years ago.

In those sections, the character had curly hair, a beauty mark, and thin brows. I used the orange and black on one piece to accentuate the differences, add drama, and make it seem to empower that even though you don’t fit in what society deems ‘beautiful’ doesn’t make you any less gorgeous than those people on social media. The other side is blue and black to seem sad and sombre.
