Good Shepherd Students Compete in Arafura Games
Congratulations to Arafura Games swimmers - Bradley Hayman - Year 12, Dana Carroll - Year 11, Caitlin Houlihan - Year 9, Ffion Jones - Year 8 and Keysha Bui-Oatway - Year 8 on your incredible efforts this week.
Well done also to students who were volunteers; helping out by carrying buckets with the swimmers' belongings to the finish line – Abi Edwards, Isabelle Edwards, Charlotte Eades, Sam Edwards and Ryan Carroll.
Thank you swimmers for sending us these great quotes on your Arafura Games experiences.
Caitlin: “Arafura 2019 was an awesome experience for me, in being a part of a big swimming team to represent the NT. I have the pleasure of meeting and making friends with the other swimmers from other countries. And as I am part Filipino it was an honour for me to swim with the Philippine National Team.”
Bradley: “I swam in just over 20 races over the four days, making finals (top 8 fastest) for 7out of 9 of my events, and placing 4th in 3 finals with a PB in every race I swam.”
Ffion: “Overall it was a good experience because even if you weren’t the best swimmer there you still felt like you belonged. It was awesome to compete against people from other countries and have the opportunity to compete at an international level.”
Dana: “I’ve been feeling pretty flat in the water for quite some time so it was a great feeling to finally have some decent swims. I’m particularly happy with my 100m breaststroke, where I did good PB and broke a 30 year old Australian Open S16 transplant record. It was also great to catch up with some of my mates from down south who I only see once or twice a year at Nationals. Plus the amazing Judith O’Hearn (Green), 2000 Paralympic gold medalist who presented me with one of my 7 gold medals.”
